| High Street is without doubt one of the strangest names
for a lakeland mountain, however there is a reason for
this perculiarity and the Hayeswater Horseshoe walk from
the beautiful village of Hartsop is a great day out. After
a gentle and then steep but short climb this walk is basically
then a gentle ridge walk taking in several Wainwrights
along the way including High Street which is a wide and
flat summit. You'll also walk part of the old roman road
that gives the mountain its perculiar name. Aswell as
the fantastic views across the eastern fells and lakes
you'll also see the impressive Thornthwaite Crag Beacon
cairn. Hartsop is a quiet and quant village and this part
of the fells is often much quieter than most of the honeypots
of the western fells, making it ideal for those wanting
a bit of solitude. |
